Renew Democracy Initiative: Heroes of Democracy Gala 2026

New York, NY – April 17, 2026 — Tut Jikany, Founder and Chairman of the South Sudan Democracy Network Initiative (SSDNI), attended the Heroes of Democracy Gala 2026, held at Gotham Hall in New York City.

Jikany participated in the event as a member of the Frontline Freedom Fellowship with the Renew Democracy Initiative (RDI), joining a global network of dissidents, policymakers, and advocates committed to advancing democratic values and resisting authoritarianism.

The gala honored individuals who have demonstrated courage and leadership in confronting authoritarian regimes and defending democratic principles. Distinguished attendees and honorees included U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Ambassador John Bolton, former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland, and Ugandan presidential candidate Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi.

The Renew Democracy Initiative continues to play a critical role in convening international voices dedicated to promoting democracy, human rights, and good governance. As authoritarianism rises globally—impacting both domestic and international systems—such platforms provide an essential space for collaboration, dialogue, and collective action.

Jikany emphasized the importance of global solidarity in defending democratic values and highlighted the need for continued engagement to support movements advocating for freedom, accountability, and institutional reform.
